Biography

General Mega Dee, born Amos Kigenyi in Lacor hospital 5 kms from Gulu town started what is now his evident music career at Kivubuka primary school in Jinja where initial contact with the school choir laid his foundation. His late father was a policeman and most likely set the grounds for the discipline we see in Mega Dee today. At university where he studied a Bachelors in Industrial and fine art, he rose to the rank of General at his militarystructured University Hall NorthCote-since renamed Nsibirwa.
General Mega Dee serious began the move to a music career in the mid 1990s when in high school at Kiira College Butiki a few kilometers from Jinja Town; He began the music composing songs for competitions in School like the annual rap and reggae competitions. Mega Dee’s engagement in the inter-dormitory musical and drama contests was a ground that prepared him for the bigger national stage. The involvement with the choir rendered him musical theoretical and practical training which he combined with other influences Chaka Demus and Pliers, Buju Banton and other acts that preceded his entry into the music industry in Uganda.
He also listened to early records by artists such as Philly Lutaaya, Afrigo Band, Shanks Vivie Dee, Ragga Dee, Emperor Orlando and Menton Summer, which gave him a basic idea of what the Ugandan sound required. Upon reaching first year of University he started working with another artiste from the same school, Menton Kronno on what was to become his debut project as part of a group.
Together they moved with their demo’s to the newly opened Kasiwukira studios in 1999 and began recording their first project with some of Uganda’s best music producers Tim Kizito and Robert Segawa.The release of the album changed the whole history and method of Ugandan urban music and also brought fame to the duo.The Duo embarked on solo projects and mega dee went on to release seven albums in a space of five years...Nze Ndeka, Omukwano,Ekili Mubeere,Wasi wasi,Oli Mukazi,Karibu Afande,Nimerudi thus making him one of the most consistent artists on the ugandan music scene.
2007 is going to be a big year for the general as he is releasing a double album collection :Engagement Ring,Woman Of My Life slated for release early Feb and after that..The sky is the limit
